Creating a World that Will Last – One Community Weekly Progress Update #708

One Community is focused on creating a world that will last, which means building sustainable approaches to food, energy, housing, education, economics, and social architecture that people can actually live well within. As an all-volunteer team, we’re developing a self-replicating model that will grow into a global collaboration of teacher/demonstration hubs, each built for “The Highest Good of All.” To make this kind of lasting change possible everywhere, we’re open sourcing and freely sharing our complete process, so communities anywhere can regenerate their environment and help create a world that works for everyone.

Anagha Sunil Bharadwaj (Legal Research and AI Policy Specialist) continued her research on perpetual purpose trusts across US jurisdictions and their practical implications. She researched how organizations document and learn from real AI errors, and wrote up three incidents from the property preservation project as internal case studies: a wrong sequence of events in a case study, weak and mislabeled sources, and eight structural gaps in the first draft legal agreements. Anagha paired these with documented outside cases, including Mata v. Avianca, to show why independent human review is needed for technical work. She then researched how organizations approve AI tools and handle shadow AI, including tool registers and fast approval paths for new requests, and how incident reporting works for AI misuse, including first hour response steps for accidental data exposure and blameless reviews, tied to the relevant NIST AI Risk Management Framework outcomes contributing to One Community’s mission of creating a world that will last.

Anagha also researched rollout and training for small nonprofits, covering signed acknowledgements, onboarding, annual refreshers, review cadence, and policy ownership. She closed the week by consolidating all research from the past two weeks into a master outline for the policy. See the collage below for her week’s work, furthering One Community’s mission of creating a world that will last for the Highest Good Network.

Sethuraman Karunanithi (Industrial Engineer) worked on the Volunteer section of the Highest Good Network (HGN) User Manual. He moved the Volunteer section of the Highest Good Network (HGN) User Manual into its own tab in the main Google Doc, so the Table of Contents tab could be kept for the table of contents. Sethuraman received Jae’s feedback on the section and applied it across the whole document. He changed the title to black, darkened the headings, and put the Key Terms in alphabetical order. Sethuraman then made the web addresses live links and turned every section reference into a link that jumps to that section. He added timer details: the timer keeps running in the background when it looks disconnected, the Pop-out timer keeps it in view, the timer stops when the computer is closed or the internet disconnects, and Chrome is the recommended browser furthering One Community’s mission of creating a world that will last.

Sethuraman also wrote a new section on using the timer properly, with a One Community Policy box stating that time should be logged daily, not saved up in large blocks, and never more than 10 hours in one day. He added what happens after warnings and after a bug report is sent, along with a new Quick Answers entry about a disconnected timer. He also left comments where icons have no hover text. Using the Demo Volunteer account, Sethuraman took new pictures of the Light Mode and Dark Mode dashboard, the notifications popup, the Welcome menu, the Bug Report and User Suggestion forms, a disconnected timer, the Change Password page, the Timelog tabs, the Add Intangible Time Entry form, the Timelog page, and the Team Locations list with names hidden. He corrected the description of the Timelog page and the Team Locations page to match what the site shows. Also, Sethuraman renumbered the section from 1 to 8 so it reads as its own document. See the collage below for this work toward creating a world that will last.

DEV DYNASTY SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TEAM

The Dev Dynasty Team’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network, was managed by Aadit Trivedi (Volunteer Software Engineer and Software Team Administrator) with a team consisting of Akshay Viswanath (Software Engineer), Ansh Shah (Software Engineer), Bosu Babu Bade (Software Developer), Gayatri Sawant (Software Engineer), Hemanth Varupula (Software Developer), Isha Pawar (Software Engineer), Linlin Fan (Software Engineer), Mahalakshmi Mahadevan (Volunteer Software Engineer), Mahathi Ganimisetti (Data Analyst), Shreevaths Karawal Satish Rao (Software Engineer), Shreyas Battula (Software Engineer), and Yuxuan Wang (Software Engineer), supporting One Community’s mission of cross-functional software development and system improvements. This week, Akshay’s backend fix for the Task Completed chart date filter was merged, and he addressed reviewer feedback on the Total Org Summary chart pull request, keeping the donut center text inside the ring at all screen widths, fixing small slices showing 0%, and showing N/A instead of NaN when there is no earlier data. He fixed several dark mode issues on the pull request he took over, restored the strict skills filter match on the backend Skills Overview pull request, and opened pull requests to restore the Reset Password button for authorized users and to show who added, edited, or deleted a volunteer’s time logs. Ansh tested PR #5623 for the Volunteer Hours Distribution, PR #5622 for the attendance page, PR #5614 for the Issue Log submission flow, and PR #5476 for Team Member Tasks, where he identified task names compressing and wrapping vertically, contributing to creating a world that will last.

Bosu completed the Phase 1 task adding an optional reason when an account is changed from Rehireable to Not Rehireable, storing it on the profile, showing it on hover with an orange indicator, and clearing it when the user is changed back, with frontend tests passing 20 of 20 and backend tests 11 of 11, and opened frontend PR #5633 with its backend pull request. Gayatri fixed several Total Org Summary issues ahead of launch: she added the missing Weekly Committed Hours data in backend PR #2388 and corrected the hour ranges in PR #5623, replaced a hard-coded Mentors count with a shared live calculation in PR #5452, kept deactivated and paused volunteers’ hours in the organization totals in backend PR #2389, and aligned the Active Teams card and Team Stats on one definition in PR #5634, work that supports creating a world that will last.

Hemanth worked on the vertical spacing dropdown pull request, adding the backend paths, fixing a 404 error, and reducing the dropdown spacing, and tested it in light and dark modes. Isha confirmed that PRs #4227 and #4162 were already included in development, completed attendance and no-show tracking in PR #5622 and backend PR #1911, replaced mock data with live APIs in the Event Popularity Analytics PRs #4514 and #1941, addressed reviewer feedback on PR #5597, and resolved merge conflicts and duplicate routes in the PR Grading PRs #5414 and #2286. Linlin worked on PRs #5477, #5491, #5493, #5504, and #5517, adding inline grading summaries with mobile scrolling, standardizing the project table header, stabilizing the header layout, and improving the mobile menu position, advancing creating a world that will last.

Mahalakshmi improved the Total Construction Summary dashboard, fixing the Rental Tracking filters, percentages, project names, and dark mode in PR #5599, and rebuilding the page’s formatting work from the current development branch in PR #5636, where she removed duplicate Financials charts and fixed the Global Distribution map and Loss Tracking display in dark mode. Mahathi resolved Supplier Performance project lookup issues, improved the Planned vs Actual Cost and Cost Variance Trend charts, and wrote 27 Jest tests reaching full coverage of the related backend controllers. Shreevaths fixed several notification bell issues in PR #3932, so alerts stay dismissed, show only the logged-in user’s own hours, goals, and tasks, avoid false alerts while data loads, and count only tangible time toward committed hours. These fixes contribute to creating a world that will last.

Shreyas fixed a team regression, trailing white space in team search, and Quality Gate issues, and audited the HGN Email Announcement backend, identifying a possible race condition where emails are queued before the database transaction commits. Yuxuan completed follow-up fixes to the Hours by Team Member visualization on the Projects Reports page with all related tests passing, and began the Phase 1 task to fix the View NEW AI Prompt notification. Their work supports creating a world that will last. The collage below offers a visual representation of the team’s work for the week.

SKYE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TEAM

The Skye Team’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network, was managed by Anthony Weathers (Software Engineer), with a team consisting of Ken Zou (Software Engineer), Jaden Wong (Software Engineer), Purav Patel (Software Engineer), and Swathi Angadi (Software Engineer), supporting One Community’s mission of cross functional software development and system improvements. This work advances the team’s objectives and supports One Community’s work toward creating a world that will last.

This week, Anthony continued addressing review feedback for PR #5588 and PR #2369 related to the warning tracker hotfix. He resolved issues affecting tracker editing and deletion when no information modal existed, connected information modal deletion to tracker deletion to prevent leftover records, corrected dark mode styling for the warning tracker list and dashboard user section and added frontend and backend validation based on review feedback. He also updated related tests to restore passing results and met with Ken to discuss task handovers and following up when pull requests require reviews or re reviews. Ken worked on fixing the Volunteer Hours Distribution pie chart by updating the frontend to display volunteer counts by hour range while retaining total hours in the chart center. He corrected the Actual Hours Worked legend labels and tooltips, updated the backend categorization logic to return all six required hour ranges and revised the percentage calculation to represent volunteers with logged hours relative to the active volunteer population. Their work further supported creating a world that will last.

Jaden fixed a Collaboration jobs page issue where the Show Summaries view could direct users to a placeholder jobs.example.com link. He added validation that falls back to the internal job application page when an external link is missing, malformed or uses a placeholder host, replaced an array lookup with a Set to resolve a SonarQube maintainability finding and verified the changes through ESLint and all 18 Collaboration tests. He also improved the pull request documentation and corrected the testing route instructions furthering One Community’s mission of creating a world that will last.

Purav took over the Job Application Listing Page and collaboration ads creation work from frontend PR #4307 and backend PR #1872 by rebuilding the features on the latest development branches. After encountering Husky and lint staged memory failures during the older branch merge, he created clean branches, selectively ported the required changes and opened backend PR #2385 and frontend PR #5629. He also fixed category filtering, Dropbox image rendering, listing overflow, navigation and protected route access, refined dark mode and TinyMCE styling, addressed Sonar reliability findings and approximately 77 additional code smell issues, corrected CI Prettier failures and aligned backend upload MIME handling with the frontend implementation. These efforts continued advancing creating a world that will last.

Swathi continued fixing the Edit to Reorder button by rewriting the outdated Collaboration page implementation to align with the current codebase. She made the required changes, tested the functionality and documented the results with screenshots and videos while waiting for confirmation on whether package.json and yarn.lock should be included in the next push. She also continued resolving SonarQube issues identified in the PR Team Analytics Dark Mode pull request. This work contributed to creating a world that will last.
