With an ongoing commitment to applying nature as our teacher, One Community is open sourcing a global sustainability model created by an all-volunteer team, driven by the ethos of “The Highest Good of All“, and covering sustainable food, energy, housing, education, for-profit and non-profit economic design, social architecture, and more. Beyond establishing a community, we’re pioneering a self-replicating teacher/demonstration hub.

One Community is applying nature as our teacher through Highest Good housing that is artistic and beautiful, more affordable, more space efficient, lasts longer, DIY buildable, and constructed with healthy and sustainable materials:
This week, Shengguang Jin (Mechanical Engineer) investigated the extraction and refinement of informative videos, aiming to generate ideas for enhancing the assembly of the Vermiculture Toilet. A summary paragraph has been added to the Google Doc, and Shengguang created 2D sketches for the waste-collecting rotational container. The design now includes accurate specifications for each dimension. See the images below for an idea of this work, an excellent example of applying nature as our teacher.
Yiwei He (Mechanical Engineer) focused on the Most Sustainable Lightbulb selection page and project management tasks with the Duplicable City Center. Her primary activities included light bulb content review and feedback, and advancing the design work for the hub connectors. Check out the collage below to see her work for the week.
One Community is applying nature as our teacher through a Duplicable and Sustainable City Center that is LEED Platinum certified/Sustainable, can feed 200 people at a time, provide laundry for over 300 people, is beautiful, spacious, and saves resources, money, and space:
This week, Amiti Singh (Architectural Designer) continued her work helping with the interior design details for the rental rooms within the Duplicable City Center. Amiti initiated the 3D rendering process for Room 10, focusing on a Boho-aesthetic industrial theme, not an example of applying nature as our teacher, but still very beautiful and interesting. She began with the establishment of an initial material palette for the room, laying the foundation for the design elements. In addition to this, Amiti completed file finalization for the room design projects. See below for the collage of images related to this.
This week, the engineering summary was managed by Arvindh Xavier (Civil Engineer) and featured Julio Marín Bustillos (Mechanical Engineer) highlighting Julio’s concluded work on the Dome Hub Connector designs for the seventh row, generating four variations based on the initial design. Moving to the sixth row, a notable complexity emerged, necessitating a more extensive array of variations. The absence of discernible repetition in the designs presented a unique challenge for the sixth row and a similar situation is anticipated for the fifth row. One Community is applying nature as our teacher through Highest Good food that is more diverse, more nutritious, locally grown and sustainable, and part of our open source botanical garden model to support and share bio-diversity:
This week, Hayley Rosario (Sustainability Research Assistant) continued her review of the open-source Highest Good Food rollout plan. This plan is very much built on applying nature as our teacher. Hayley reviewed the 50-person webpage, her plan involves creating the final rough draft of the EDITs document. She also spent time working on other web pages and implemented details for the 20-person webpage. See below for the picture.
This week, the Transition Food Self-sufficiency Plan UI/UX Web and Graphics development was managed by Shivangi Patel (Graphic Designer) combining her work with the contributions of Rihab Baklouti (Freelance Generalist. Shivangi focused on producing social media content for Facebook, utilizing her Photoshop skills. Additionally, her efforts were directed toward the creation of mock-ups for Vegan Rice, Vegan Potato, Vegan Yam, and Vegan Pasta recipe pages. See below for the visual images.
One Community is applying nature as our teacher through Highest Good education that is for all ages, applicable in any environment, adaptable to individual needs, far exceeds traditional education standards, and more fun for both the teachers and the students. This component of One Community is about 95% complete with only the Open Source School Licensing and Ultimate Classroom construction and assembly details remaining to be finished. We’ll report on the final two elements to be finished as we develop them.
With over 8 years of work invested in the process, the sections below are all complete until we move onto the property and continue the development and open sourcing process with teachers and students – a development process that integrates applying nature as our teacher and built directly into the structure of the education program and everything else we’re creating too:

This week, the core team completed 63 hours managing One Community volunteer-work review not included above, emails, social media accounts, web development, new bug identification and bug-fix integration for the Highest Good Network software, and interviewing and getting set up new volunteer team members. We also shot and incorporated the video above that talks about applying nature as our teacher and how applying nature as our teacher integrates into the bigger picture of everything One Community is doing. The pictures below show some of this work.
The core team also worked on testing on HGN PRs for One Community this week. They worked on on several Highest Good Network (HGN) pull requests (PRs) to ensure the platform’s functionality. The tean also confirmed the resolution of various issues, including fixing the white screen problem related to entering certain locations, implementing the team members’ sorting function by name and date, addressing the leaderboard refresh animation, and fixing the functionality of the Task Info Changes modal. Moreover, they confirmed the yellow bar display on the entire width of the screen to appropriately warn users about requests for posting their bios. Despite these accomplishments, challenges persisted with PRs related to uneven formatting on the People’s Reports Page, difficulties saving an updated media link, and the non-visibility of badges assigned during the week on the This Week page under the user’s name. Additionally, the team created a new user account to facilitate testing for a specific scenario aligned with ‘short week’ scenario. You can view this work in the collage below.
Another core team member continued his review of Eckhart Tolle’s audio A NEW EARTH noting statements for possible inclusion in the One Community values page. He also engaged in a phone call with Hayley Rosario and answered her questions about animals and how they fit into the property, and for what purposes and functions. Additionally they discussed the 20 & 50 person tasks. You can view this work in the collage below.
Aaron Wang (Fundraising Assistant) continued to help One Community with working on fundraising. We won’t be able to open source applying nature as our teacher without funding. This week he focused on revising and enhancing the research conducted in the previous week, specifically regarding potential funders Robert Downey Jr., MacKenzie Scott, George Soros, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. His work involved identifying and linking events and organizations these individuals have supported, integrating hyperlinks directly into the research for ease of reference. Additionally, Aaron expanded his research scope to include Salma Hayek and her husband François-Henri Pinault, as well as Emilia Clarke. For these new subjects, he thoroughly investigated their sustainability activities, philosophical beliefs, funding history, and the specific organizations they have supported. Harsha Kulkarni (Data Analyst) continued working on One Community‘s Google AdWords campaigns and Analytics details. This week, she focused on ad creation across multiple campaigns, with a particular emphasis on the Education campaign, including the development of ads for first lesson plans and Blooms Taxonomy ad groups. Additionally, ads were generated for the Society ad campaign, specifically under the Sustainable Community Building ad group and Consensus Decision Making. Two ads were created within the OCG Branding Methodology ad group. Furthermore, two ads were crafted for the Food ad campaign, specifically under the Hoop House Construction and Dam and Lake Construction ad groups. The week also involved the creation of ads for the Energy ad campaign. You can see some of this in the picture below.
Julie Musicar (Sound Editor) continued to help One Community this week by addressing the Dropbox storage constraint and resolving the issue. Maximizing uploads, she set up a YouTube to MP3 converter for various audios. Screenshots of the storage message are attached in the Dropbox. Additionally, Julie introduced two more audio samples to a shared Google Drive folder for potential podcast intro music choices. Vishvesh Sheora (Artificial Intelligence Specialist) focused on elevating the SEO performance of blog posts featured on the One Community website. This week, Vishvesh focused on enhancing the SEO performance of the “About Us” and Global Sustainability pages. Notably, the SEO score for the “About Us” page witnessed a significant improvement, rising from 81/100 to 90/100. Simultaneously, the Global Sustainability page saw a substantial boost in its SEO score, escalating from a modest 33/100 to an impressive 91/100. This achievement was the result of Vishvesh’s dedicated efforts and specialized expertise in utilizing the RankMath plugin and optimizing for relevant keyword strings like “applying nature as our teacher” is for this page. This week, the Administration Team’s summary, covering their work administrating and managing most of One Community, was managed by Catherine Liu (Administrative and Analytics Assistant, Team Manager) and includes Meenakshi Velayutham (Sustainability Associate), Olawunmi “Ola” Ijisesan (Administrative and Management Support), Ruiqi Liu (Administrative Assistant), Shaurya Sareen (Administrative Assistant), Xiaolai Li (Administrative Assistant). Catherine completed her onboarding training, addressing and rectifying errors in her dry run practice, and demonstrated a commitment to swift integration into her role. She acquired proficiency in the PR review component of administrative tasks, participating in the evaluation of existing reviews and contributing pertinent comments to enhance the overall process. Meenakshi focused on diverse admin obligations, including ensuring everyone is included in the weekly blog, bio announcements, and status updates. She created new bio announcements for volunteers, updated the monitoring spreadsheet, worked on integrating notes/summary into the light bulb webpage, and incorporated changed content sections. She also engaged in webpage overview checklists and tutorials for new editorial and webpage review tasks. Melina completed the orientation process with One Community, gaining proficiency in evaluating team members’ work, producing images, and editing summaries for the One Community Weekly Progress Update Blog. She learned to provide feedback on colleagues’ work, review summaries, compose collages for presentation, and utilize WordPress for finalizing and posting blog content. Ola dedicated her week to reviewing comments and work of new trainees, uploading the live blog onto her edited page, and creating forms for the new task assigned to her. Ruiqi completed the four-step review process for various teams, providing feedback, creating collage images, incorporating SEO keywords, and working on business plan development related to “Walkways” and “Landscaping.” She also conducted a detailed comparison of the management team’s modified webpage with her own. Shaurya completed a full review of pull requests (PRs), addressing issues with team members, updating tracking sheets and weekly tables for the Highest Good Network team, and crafting a concise team summary with a team collage featuring all PRs. Xiaolai organized documents and summaries for weekly report 557, refined the draft, reviewed the final report, and set up the webpage for this week’s updates. Additionally, he researched costs associated with solar and wind infrastructure, working on a spreadsheet to compile and analyze relevant data. You can see the work for the team in the image below.
This week, the Blue Steel Team’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network software, was managed by Nathan Hoffman (Software Engineer, Team Manager) and includes Sávio Mendes (Full Stack Software Developer), Yongjian Pan (React.js/MongoDB Full Stack Software Developer), and Yubo Sun (Full Stack Software Developer). Nathan undertook a comprehensive review process, rejecting Edwin’s PR 1545 and re-reviewing and rejecting Yongjian’s PR 1331. He followed up on reviews for their own PRs, specifically PRs 1548 and 585, and contributed to updates on the permissions management document, focusing on grammar and punctuation. Among their tasks were the review of PRs and tasks by Yubo and Shubhankar, the segregation of permissions for access to reports and summaries, and addressing the yellow bar issue on the “bio announcement” in the weekly summary page for Jae. He also engaged in discussions with Jae about permissions ideology, reasoning, and corporate structure, and responded to Yubo regarding a bugs doc question related to permissions testing. Activities also included updating the Permissions spreadsheet color coding, adjusting the permissions management page, and responding to Jae’s comments about the yellow highlight for bios in the Weekly Summaries Report page. Savio concentrated on finalizing mock-ups and design for the new ‘Overview Report’ Page, exploring Data Visualization and Graphs Libraries, particularly emphasizing the D3.js library. He enhanced the previous design based on feedback, introducing four new graphs – the Horizontal Bar Graph, Horizontal Grouped Bar Graph, Horizontal Grouped Big Bar Graph, and Horizontal Stacked Bar Graph, integrated with the Donut Graph for improved user experience beyond plain text presentation. Yongjian completed the re-implementation of dark and light modes for the entire application, overcoming challenges from merge conflict issues. He conducted thorough testing, confirming functionality alignment with expectations, though minor issues, notably the “message 2” message within the header component, still require resolution. He also continued efforts to address these outstanding issues for a seamless integration of dark and light mode features throughout the application. Yubo took on the responsibility of developing a specialized version of emails for blue squares. Engaged in advancing frontend PR #1035, he focused on managing permissions for other users and communicated updates through Slack. After a thorough review, he provided approval only for backend PR #585, recognizing that frontend PR #1548 and backend PR #585 addressed the same issue. He also identified and rectified a bug hindering the updating of user media links, implementing a minor fix on the RegEx, while contemplating the potential removal of frontend PR #1035 as deemed necessary. This week, the Expressers Team’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network software, was managed by Tim Kent (Full Stack Software Engineer) and includes Aishwarya Kalkundrikar (Full Stack Software Developer), Harshida Dalal (Software Engineer), and Olga Yudkin (Software Engineer). Olga refined the design of the tool/equipment view component and refactored the tool component, integrating the rentalDurationItem function to display the duration period. Concurrently, she continued building the router and controller for a single tool. She also reviewed the Backend PR for the project API and initiated its integration into the BM dashboard refactor branch, while addressing and resolving styling issues in the BM dashboard project summary view. Harshida took the lead in initiating pull requests (1573, 1578) for the Sorting and Filtering functionality on the Material List component, ensuring the completion of all necessary code changes and submitting the pull request for review. She also developed the frontend view for the Equipment inventory list, which is currently in progress. Tim focused on upgrading the building project summary backend API to facilitate the GET request, fetching aggregated and calculated values essential for the frontend display of project summary data. This involved transforming the API route’s MongoDB query into an aggregation operation, effectively joining documents from multiple database collections, and performing various operations on the data using both aggregation pipelines and JavaScript array methods. Aishwarya coded all necessary files for the creation of the tools purchase request form. Additionally, she extracted specific files from the frontend pull request raised by Tim for the Material Purchase request form. This software will be used to objectively track all our open source creations applying nature as our teacher. The collage below shows some of this work.
This week, the Git-R-Done Team’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network software, was managed by Eduardo Horta (Software Engineer) and includes, Kaikane Lacno (Learning Assistant), Miguelcloid Reniva (Software Developer), Olena Danykh (Software Engineer), and Shuhua Liu (Full-Stack Developer). Eduardo guided team member Rhea on linter issues, provided feedback to Jeffrey, and addressed file modification and EOL setting concerns in PR reviews. He also completed the HGN spreadsheet unit test and raised PRs to introduce the .nvmrc file for Node v14, showcasing commitment and collaboration within the team. Olena led the development of the Edit button functionality, clarified its specifics in the team document, and modified the tags input functionality in the Lesson Card component to prevent duplicates. Kai focused on refining tags functionality, updating a drag-and-drop pull request, and testing the “take a photo” feature on mobile devices. Additionally, he participated in the code review process, conducting four pull request reviews. Miguel focused on implementing dynamic rendering functionality for checkbox options, dependent on the selected dropdown option. He also integrated dynamic rendering for rows and columns, ensuring that each row displays two-column checkboxes. Shuhua was involved in creating a distinct view for “! Summary” tailored for individuals who don’t need to submit one. Prior to delving into coding, she finished a thorough examination of the relevant components and states in the Front End app, breaking down the task into smaller actionable items. This software will be used to objectively track all our open source creations applying nature as our teacher. The collage below shows some of this work.
This week, the Graphic Design Team’s summary was managed by Ruiqi (Administrative Assistant) and includes Ashlesha Navale (Graphic Designer), Emily Ferguson (Visual Designer), and Nancy Mónchez (Graphic Designer) Ashlesha created eight Social Media Images and curated nature-based and theme-based background images. She also updated web content for a previously created volunteer announcement and expanded her skills with advanced features in Adobe Photoshop. Emily focused on vibrant social media image creation, incorporating diverse graphics and integrating feedback for improved impact. She experimented with Pixabay as a graphic source and you can definitely see themes of applying nature as our teacher in these images. Nancy crafted a bio profile in Visual Code. She also finished a redesign task, completing two distinct assignments during the week. The collage below shows some of this work.
This week, Moonfall Team’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network software, was managed by Navneeth Krishna (Software Engineer) and includes Cheng-Yun Chuang (Software Engineer), Haoji Bian (Software Engineer), Ruike Qiu (Software Engineer), Tzu Ning “Leo” Chueh (Software Engineer), Xiao Fei (Software Engineer) and Yihan Liu (Software Engineer). Haoji focused on the creation and refinement of an email editor and sender within a web application. He implemented a user interface, dubbed the “Weekly Progress Editor,” which provides users with standard text editing tools and a field for inputting email addresses. Cheng-Yun developed unit test code for Overview.jsx, focusing on render testing and verification of correct prop displays. He initiated PR#1574, providing a detailed description of the unit test code within the pull request. Lu reviewed documents related to the Assistant Manager position provided by Jae and actively assisted Navneeth in team management, following tutorials shared by Navneeth. Lu also selected a debug project to initiate JUnit testing responsibilities, studying relevant test documents for preparation. Navneeth improved the implementation of the “Permissions Mngmnt: See Teams Management Tab (Create Teams and edit team members only)” task while navigating issues with the dashboard and teams APIs in the Development server. He finished the final review of PR #1503 and #599 related to the interactive map functionality. As the Team Manager of Team Moonfall, Navneeth fulfilled responsibilities related to daily monitoring, weekly work reviews, and task delegation, including training the Assistant Manager in team management duties. Ruike addressed specific issues within the system, resolving a bug related to overlapping task-change counts and rectifying a text bug occurring when users submitted tasks for review. He also refined the functionality of managing user permissions to ensure that only active users are displayed, enhancing the overall user experience. Tzu-Ning enhanced the accuracy and integrity of the system’s badge awarding functions, reviewing the checkXHrsForXWeeks function to guarantee precise badge awards based on user time logs. Xiao F achieved progress on the ‘Add floating and dismissable team notification modal’ task, implementing a floating style for navigation and summary bars. He also optimized both front-end and back-end code for the ‘Create way for an Owner to edit/update the ChatGPT prompt text’ task, resolving issues in reducer functions and clarifying naming conventions. Yihan focused on the task “Create way to see 6 months & yearly anniversaries,” addressing date issues within the showTrophyIcon function and making updates to PR#1535 based on feedback. This software will be used to objectively track all our open source creations applying nature as our teacher. Look below for a collage of their work.
This week, Reactonauts’ Team’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network software, was managed by Carl Bebl (Software Developer) and includes Masasa Thapelo (Software Engineer), Obeda Velonjatovo (Front End Developer/Software Developer), Ramya Ramasamy (Full Stack Developer), Shantanu Kumar (Full Stack Software Developer), Shivansh Sharma (Software Developer), Shiwani Rajagopalan (Software Engineer), Shrey Jain (Software Engineer), Yixiao Jiang (Software Engineer) and Zuhang Xu (Software Engineer). Anirudh resolved all encountered bugs related to the edit button task, and the corresponding code has been submitted for review. Masasa focused on visualizing team data using a pie chart and a table. He developed a table component showcasing the members and roles of selected teams, along with the total count of individuals across all chosen teams. Obeda worked on the fixing the issue with the “Add New Project” task. He was able to identify the source of the problem; a delay in an asynchronous function called whe adding a new project. Shantanu completed the task of writing unit test cases for the color generator component related to the pie chart common component. Shivansh fixed a recently discovered bug, allowing users to delete essential team or project elements without possessing the required permissions, hinting at a potential security vulnerability within the user’s profile during such deletion attempts. Shrey finished unit test cases. He selected two components, initiated pull requests (PR#1581, PR#1582 and PR#1583) for these components and submitted his work for peer review. Yixiao resolved issues with the TaskEditSuggestionModal.test.js file. He also initiated an analysis of the TaskEditSuggestions component, planning to segment the testing process into rendering, integration and event handling. Ramya reviewed pull requests related to phase 2 functionalities and unit tests due to limited ongoing development works. During these reviews, she identified an issue with the location where unit test files were being saved and promptly communicated this to the team. Shiwani finished two pivotal tasks. For the CurrentPromptModal unit test, she categorized test cases into six areas, executing tests that included verifying rendering, assessing button functionality, validating tooltips and ensuring modal operation. Carl reviewed unit testing guidelines and studied existing unit tests. Additionally, he opened an issue related to the reordering of suggestion options and offered support during meetings with Reactonauts team members. He assessed and provided feedback on multiple pull requests, addressing issues #599, #1501, #1503, #1518, #1565, #1567, #1568, #1573, and #1574. Zuhang examined feedback from prior Pull Request evaluations. This software will be used to objectively track all our open source creations applying nature as our teacher. This week, Skye’s summary, covering their work on the Highest Good Network software, was managed by Luis Arevalo (Front End Developer) and includes Bailey Mejia (Software Engineer), Roberto Contreras (Software Developer), Tuan Dinh (Software Engineer) and Yao Wang (Software Engineer). Bailey submitted a pull request for the personal maximum badge task, editing tangible hours in the MongoDB database for immediate badge awarding and providing a test guide. He also investigated and identified the cause of prolonged loading times in the tasks component, attributing it to simultaneous data loading for over 600 users and highlighting areas for potential optimization. Yao addressed a new bug by removing the text “(function under development)” beneath the blue square and initiated the integration of a modifiable “i” button on the page. After a thorough code review, he eliminated the problematic text and implemented the button. Tuan completed unit testing for WbsTable.jsx and InfringementsViz.jsx, crafting eight test cases for WbsTable and ensuring correct rendering, ID truncation and icon display. In InfringementsViz, Tuan verified error-free rendering, the presence of the graph display button, and modal behavior, ensuring proper functionality on button clicks. Roberto addressed an intangible time issue related to large decimal values, implementing rounding measures and correcting database entries. He also provided feedback on assigned pull requests, addressing mapping team locations and personal max hours duplicate issues. Focusing on the user profile page modal, Roberto introduced an asynchronous approach to mitigate data mix-up during page refresh after saving changes. Luis finished the warning component that will be displayed under every user. He added 8 icons and text to display what each icon represents, and imported a bootstrap component which would render a hover component.
