One Community is happy to feature and thank Gilberto Martini de Oliveira as our most recent member of the Graphic Design Team. Gilberto spent the last two months creating interactive 3-D designs for the Tropical Atrium, Earthbag Village (Pod 1) domes, Communal Showers, 3-dome cluster for the crowdfunding campaign, and the Tree House Village.

3rd-year 3D Animation Design Student and Video Image Presentation Coordinator: Brazilian native Gilberto has a passion for real-time architectural walk-through, 3D animation, and game development at Savannah College of Art and Design – Savannah, Georgia. In Brazil, he works as a freelancer where he has developed his expertise in virtual and physical Maquette production over the past 8 years. Offering a determination to get the job done no matter the situation, Gilberto is recognized for his leadership abilities and balanced judgement. As a member of the 2015 intern leadership team, Gilberto created interactive 3-D designs for the Tropical Atrium, Earthbag Village (Pod 1) domes, Communal Showers, 3-dome cluster for the crowdfunding campaign, and the Tree House Village.

4th-year Electrical Engineering Student: Israel is a student from Brazil studying abroad on the last year of his graduation. He has knowledge and experience with MatLab, SolidWorks, Arduino, C++, and Labview. His native language is Portuguese and he is also advanced in English and has a basic understanding of Spanish. Israel’s past volunteer experience includes tutoring math-challenged students from public school in Brazil. He brought his desire to learn and his passion for helping people to the One Community team working on the Duplicable City Center electrical design and control systems for this structure and all 7 sustainable village models.

One Community is happy to feature and thank Manassés Santos as our most recent member of the Graphic Design Team. Manassés spent the last two months working on the definition, selection, complete design, and presentation of a possible new logo for One Community as well as leading the design and development of a complete presentation of all seven villages.

4th-year Graphic Design Student: During his senior year at the University of Bahia (UNEB), in Brazil, Manassés received the opportunity to continue his education at the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). Manassés has always been passionate about self improvement and the learning process and was excited to participate. With a desire to create positive change, Manassés believes that all knowledge is worthless if it cannot be used in a way that benefits people and transforms the world into a better place. His keen interest in exploring different subjects of Design influenced him to spend many hours learning Design Theory and mastering different tools and techniques used in the industry. Manassés has experience with software such as Photoshop, Illustrator InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Rhinoceros. Additionally, experiences such as being a member of the Academic Center of Design at UNEB, and being a volunteer in the SCAD Alternative Spring Break 2015, allowed him to improve his skills in communication, teamwork, project management and illustration. As a member of the One Community team, Manassés led the design for development of a complete presentation of all seven villages.

This last week the core team working behind the scenes began what we hope will be the final major revision of the Footers, Foundations and Flooring page for the upcoming crowdfunding campaign.

This included adding more photos & descriptions, writing up a narrative for compass use in creating the dome curvature, compass parts details and more. We’d say we’re about 8% complete with this final revision behind the scenes.

We also added annotations and updated the Earthbag Village main hub with Gilberto’s 3-D interactives of both the 3-dome and 6-dome resident clusters. You can see this work here and experience a self-guided 3-D walkthrough on the main hub:

Sayonara (a member of the Architecture and Planning Intern Team) added final details to the 3D model of the communal shower design for the Earthbag Village (Pod 1). She then brought sections 1 and 2 of the section views of the Straw Bale Village (Pod 2) to 99% completion.

Adolpho from our Mechanical Engineering Intern Team worked with Tiago from our Electrical Intern Team on correcting and finalizing the electrical layout designs for villages 1, 5, and 7, which included adding in control panels, outlets, and an updated lighting plan.

And Samantha, a member of the Architecture and Planning Intern Team, re-rendered images of the Shipping Container Village (Pod 5) using REVIT and 3DSMAX, and included an exploded view of each floor.

She also modeled and rendered an additional 2-bedroom unit for this village.

Flávia finished the the final 30% of the architecture corrections and internal layout for the Cob Village (Pod 3) bringing that to 100% completion.

She also completed a proposal for the interior design of the Duplicable City Center, including the furniture made from recycled pallets that she worked on with Gabriel.

SUSTAINABLE WORLD BUILDING DUPLICABLE CITY CENTER PROGRESS

One Community is creating sustainable world building through a Duplicable and Sustainable City Center that is LEED Platinum certified/Sustainable, can feed 200 people at a time, provide laundry for over 300 people, is beautiful, spacious, and saves resources, money, and space:

This week the core team continued updating the Sketchup 3-D for the Duplicable City Center. This week we finished doors and main walls for the Living Dome, the roof of the 4th floor, and updating to the new layout for the library, restrooms and main area of the Social Dome.

We’d say we’re about 40% complete with the 3-D update.

Civil Engineering intern Renata brought the design and cost analysis of all the windows and doors of the Duplicable City Center to 100% completion:

Mayke finalized his review of the kitchen designs for the Shipping Container Village and the Earthship Village. He also selected the components to use in Revit for the kitchen design modeling in 3D:

Ricardo Carrillo (Design Consultant and Principal of Acumen Industries) and the Structural Intern Team (Beatriz, Rodrigo, and Maurilio) completed the structural design for the interior of the Residential Dome.

This included the finalization of the sizing for the main beams, auxiliary beams and all the columns:

Diogo, Izadora, Mateus, and Roberto from the Hydraulics Intern Team created a plumbing fixtures schedule for the City Center. They also created the initial cold water design for village 5 and 6.

Mike Hogan (Automation Systems Developer and Business Systems Consultant) guided Fabio, Lucas de Souza, Lucas Tsutsui da Silva, and Henrique of the Electrical Intern Team on revisions 4 and 5 of the first City Center control panel design.

They also placed the layout for the sensors in the blueprints, and brought the AC panel design to about 90% complete.

Meanwhile, Amauri from our Mechanical Engineering Intern Team remade the 3D model of the laundry room from scratch and created an animated simulation for the heat flow.

He also put the components together for a real working model of the shower heat capture his team designed, which took 10 minutes and cost $92.10 for components.

This last week Lucas from the Graphic Design Intern Team continued creating badges for the award system in the Highest Good Network application:

Manuella, of the Graphic Design Intern Team continued working with service design student Carolina on the online presentation document for the Tree House Village.

They continued integrating service design methods into their online magazine and videos for this village. They also worked on the 3D modeling which includes structural and external views.

Graphic Design Intern Manasses worked on the organization of the renders, content, and other graphic elements for the online presentations he is creating for all seven of One Community’s villages bringing this work to about 30% complete.

Igor, Marco, Matheus, and Natalia of the Software Development Intern Team continued coding and debugging the Highest Good Network application, which included fixing errors, optimizing the code, and getting it running faster.

And last but not least, Mobile Software Developer Gustavo’s work on the One Community iphone app included creating a new report for total hours worked, updating public feedback details into the Programs feature, creating the ability for a user to change their login and password, and additional bug fixes and improvements.

This last week the core team transferred the first 50% of the content for the Quantity and Quality lesson plan to the website:

One Community is creating a new paradigm for ecological living through Highest Good food that is more diverse, more nutritious, locally grown and sustainable, and part of our open source botanical garden model to support and share bio-diversity:

This last week the core team featured our open source ulluco hub across our social media channels using this new social media image we created:

his last week the core team working behind the scenes began working on the Site Selection, Preparation and Finishing details for the upcoming crowdfunding campaign.

This included setting up the initial outline, adding photos & descriptions of some of the tools you see here, and starting the narrative for the step-by-step process. We’re now 10% complete with this.

Sayonara (a member of the Architecture and Planning Intern Team) added the wood ceiling, fan, changing room, and other details to the 3D model of the communal shower design for the Earthbag Village (Pod 1).

She then worked on the central area and new roof for the second floor of the Straw Bale Village (Pod 2) and rounded the walls on the floor plan to match the circular design of the structure.

Adolpho from our Mechanical Engineering Intern Team worked with Tiago and Israel from our Electrical Intern Team on the electrical layout, design, and cost analysis for villages 2, 3, 5 and 6.

Meanwhile, Amauri gathered additional components for a real working model of the shower heat capture to put together next week.

Welma finished researching aircrete mixers and foaming agents and put the results in the charts and tutorials she created:

And Samantha, a member of the Architecture and Planning Intern Team, finished writing the tutorial on how to use DIALux for the lighting plan, and worked on the final renders of the Shipping Container Village (Pod 5):

Flávia brought the corrections and layout for the Cob Village (Pod 3) to 70% completion in Autocad:

Raquel and Diana, also members of the Architecture and Planning Intern Team, created 2D and 3D drawings of the exterior of the Earthship Village (Pod 6), and created renders for its interior and exterior areas:

Erika, Pedro, and Victor from the Architecture and Planning Intern Team brought the architecture design for the Compressed Earth Block Village (Pod 4) to 80% completion, which included adding the layouts for the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and public restroom.

They also started creating images of the exterior facade.

Sarah, another member of the Architecture and Planning Intern Team, used AutoCad and Rhino to design structural and architectural components of the units in the Tree House Village (Pod 7):

And Thais from the Architecture and Planning Intern Team brought the site plan and layout of houses, hostels, and entertainment areas for the Tree House Village to 100% completion:

Gabriel finished new renders of a cut open version of a dome for the 3-dome cluster in the Earthbag Village. He also worked with Flávia to create additional images for the Duplicable City Center’s pallet furniture:

Gilberto from the Graphic Design Intern Team, continued his 3D modeling project for a complete, realistic walk-through of the Earthbag Village. Here you see views he created of the exterior of both a three-dome cluster and a six-dome cluster:

A NEW PARADIGM FOR ECOLOGICAL LIVING DUPLICABLE CITY CENTER PROGRESS

One Community is creating a new paradigm for ecological living through a Duplicable and Sustainable City Center that is LEED Platinum certified/Sustainable, can feed 200 people at a time, provide laundry for over 300 people, is beautiful, spacious, and saves resources, money, and space:

This week the core team continued updating the Sketchup 3-D for the Duplicable City Center. This week we finished 30% of the walking paths on the ground level and about 70% of the bathroom and bedroom layout updates in the Living Dome.

We’d say we’re about 20% complete with the 3-D update.

Civil Engineering intern Renata researched and designed windows for the Duplicable City Center. This included research on finding energy and cost efficient windows and skylights, as well as designing the triangular windows for the domes:

Mayke started to create Revit files for the kitchen, and then reviewed the kitchen designs for the Shipping Container Village and the Earthship Village:

Ricardo Carrillo (Design Consultant and Principal of Acumen Industries) and the Structural Intern Team (Gabriel, Beatriz, Fernando, Rodrigo, and Maurilio) continued to run the analysis for the structural integrity of the interior of the residential dome and finalized appropriate beam sizes for that dome.

They also ran calculations on the residential dome to see how wind from yet another direction would affect the structural integrity.

Diogo, Izadora, Joao, Mateus, and Roberto from the Hydraulics Intern Team updated the plumbing based on changes the Architectural Team made. They also added 30% to the 2D version of the cold potable water and sprinkler designs, bringing them to 90% completion.

Additionally, they started the cost analysis for the sprinkler system for fire protection.

And finally, Mike Hogan (Automation Systems Developer and Business Systems Consultant) guided Fabio, Lucas de Souza, Lucas Tsutsui da Silva, and Henrique of the Electrical Intern Team on updating details of the control panel for the Duplicable City Center.

They also worked on the calculations for the breakers and created sketches for the circuits.

This last week Lucas from the Graphic Design Intern Team began creating badges for the award system in the Highest Good Network application, which will be awarded when users achieve certain goals for the weekly hours and activities they log.

Manuella, of the Graphic Design Intern Team continued working with service design student Carolina on the online presentation document for the Tree House Village. They added illustrations for the service design and architectural processes.

They also began recording videos that illustrate the different purposes of the village and started preparing 3D prototypes.

One Community is happy to feature and thank Rodrigo Nobre as our most recent member of the Structural Engineering Intern Team. Rodrigo spent the last two months working on the design and development of the Duplicable City Center.

3rd-year Civil Engineering and Construction Management Student: Rodrigo is a Brazilian student interested in developing new techniques and materials in order to build sustainably enough to meet the requirements of today’s world. He speaks his native language, Portuguese, is fluent in English, and has advanced skills in French as well as basic skills in Spanish. Rodrigo is a very communicative and easygoing person with leadership skills and a persistent desire to achieve new goals and succeed in his projects. He has experience dealing with housing projects, doing remodels, revising and designing projects, and working with the AutoCad and Revit software. As a member of the One Community team, he spent the last two months working on the structural calculations of the Duplicable City Center domes. Rodrigo believes that sustainability is the way to put people and their activities in consonance with the world’s needs.

One Community is happy to feature and thank Amauri Tavares as our most recent member of the Mechanical Engineering Team. Amauri spent the last two months working on the heat recovery system for the laundry room in the Duplicable City Center.

Bachelors of Science and Technology and 4th-year Aerospace Engineering Student: Amauri is an international student from Brazil who recently attended California State University, Long Beach. He is sponsored by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes) in a program called Science Without Borders. Amauri is focused, reliable, hardworking, always trying to improve himself, while also making a difference in the world. He believes that knowledge is useless if it is not shared and applied for changing the world. Amauri is an author and co-author in several scientific research projects focused on deployable truss structures applied to aerospace engineering. He also worked on a team where the goal was to study the biochemical structure of proteins and apply the knowledge for biomedical engineering, focusing to develop new materials for fire-care treatments. Amauri additionally worked on a team where the goal was to study the biochemical structure of potatoes and apply the knowledge for materials engineering, focusing to develop biodegradable plastic bags. He’s volunteered as a teacher’s assistant in the Easy Way School of Languages in Ibiúna, São Paulo, Brazil and, during that time, he also taught a basic English course to kids and was responsible for applying and grading tests for all English course levels. As a member of the One Community team, Amauri modeled and calculated the specifics for the heat recovery/recycling systems for the Duplicable City Center eco-laundry and large-scale sustainable kitchen.

One Community is happy to feature and thank Thaís Eustaquio as our most recent member of the Architecture & Design Team. Thaís spent the last two months working on the design and development of all seven sustainable village models.

5th-year Architect Student at Salvador University: Originally from Salvador, Brazil, Thaís is currently enrolled in the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program and recently studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design, in Georgia. When Thaís was three years old she spoke for the first time what she wanted to be: an Architect. Since then, she has studied to become a good professional. She has advanced knowledge in Adobe programs (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, & After Effects), AutoCad, Revit, and 3DS Max. Thaís has participated as a volunteer working with children since high school – she planned activities that had the purpose of showing the importance of sustainability, such as making toys from recycled materials and organizing activities in contact with nature. Thaís believes in the value of nature and all the benefits that it brings to society. As a member of the One Community team, Thaís helped with the design and development of all seven sustainable village models.

One Community is happy to feature and thank Lucas de Souza as our most recent member of the Electrical Engineering Intern Team. Lucas spent the last two months working on the control systems for the Duplicable City Center.

3rd-year Electronic Engineering Student: Lucas is originally from Curitiba, Brazil and a student at Pontifical Catholic University of Parana. He is currently enrolled in the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program and was recently studying at the New York Institute of Technology, in New York City. Since Lucas was a child he always demonstrated proficiency in math and the desire to be an engineer. Lucas speaks three languages (native Portuguese, fluent English, and conversational Spanish) and has acquired skills in Microcontrollers, Microelectronics, and Digital Systems. Lucas also has experience with programming languages such as Assembly Language (8051), C, and C++. Past internship experience includes working with an automation company as an electrical designer assistant where he helped to design electrical circuits for automation robots on project assembly lines and technical documentation for famous car company sellers such as FIAT and Volkswagen. As a member of the One Community team, Lucas is helping with the creation of electrical designs and control systems for the Duplicable City Center and 7 Sustainable Village Models.

One Community is happy to feature and thank Marco Silva as our most recent member of the Software Engineering Team. Marco spent the last two months working on the new open-source Highest Good Network application.

3rd-year Software Engineering Student: Marco is a Brazilian exchange student who recently studied at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). He speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish, and has a basic knowledge of French. Marco left Brazil before starting his third year of Software Engineering at UnB (University of Brasília). During his time studying at SCAD (a college of art and design), Marco has been diversifying his skills as a Software Engineer and developing a broader perspective on the world. On the interactive design side, Marco has knowledge in Illustrator, Photoshop, Maya, and After Effects. He combines these skills with programming experience with C, Java, Processing, Android, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Arduino. Back in Brazil, Marco participated in a project where his function was to assure and to control the quality of applications for mobile devices of the Brazilian company Positivo Informática. Marco was chosen as the student of the month in January for the Institute of International Education because of an essay he wrote talking about how he could change the world in 2015. Since starting college, Marco has also been exploring what is possible with open source. As a member of the One Community team, Marco has applied his programming skills developing the Highest Good Network application for complete village construction and open source data gathering, time tracking, sharing, and reporting.
