LESSON PLAN
This page is a free-shared lesson plan archive for teaching all educational subjects within the context and theme of “Recreation and Relaxation”. It is purposed for use in community education environments, homeschool environments, traditional schooling environments, or as a supplemental and fun addition to any education program. As part of the complete Education for Life Program, this lesson plan is specifically designed to work in conjunction with the other components: Foundations of Teaching, Curriculum, Teaching Strategies, Learning Tools and Toys, Evaluation Model, and The Ultimate Classroom. If you’d like to learn how all these components work together, click here. Click here for the specifics focused on just using the lesson plans:

NOTE: The colors are provided as a possible linear progression (red/easiest to violet/most challenging) for people that might prefer a more linear structure. Our core philosophy, however, is that through creativity every color can be made easy or challenging for any learning level.

A NOTE ABOUT ALL ONE COMMUNITY LESSON PLANS
The One Community lesson plans are intentionally designed for use in ANY educational environment and with ALL educational, cultural, religious/spiritual, and philosophical approaches to teaching and learning. They are designed without an ideological approach and specifically so they can be adapted to include the views, preferences, methodologies, and/or ideologies preferred by different parents and teachers.
For maximum flexibility and adaptation, they are also designed to be combined to teach multiple subjects at the same time. Doing this increases the creativity, effectiveness, and fun of your learning environment. Once we are on the property and operating our version of the complete school and Education for Life program, we will be adding video examples of how to combine the lessons. In the meantime, visit the Teaching Strategies page for a list of suggestions.

* Please note that anything with an asterisk is just a suggestion. The diversity of options with asterisks are interchangeable and purposed to stimulate your own ideas. Any one of these suggestions could be replaced with a written paper, any form of art project (drawing, painting, music, paper mache, clay, wood, knitting/embroidery, metals, etc. etc.), an experiment, a presentation, a mindmap, a computer program, a web design project, a piece of poetry or a song, an interpretive dance or play, a group project, or anything else. What we feel is most important is that both the Learner and the Teacher agree on an exercise/activity they both feel would be maximally engaging, fun, and effective. If you come up with an idea we haven’t already thought of, please share it with us.

- List* 3 of your favorite activities and explain out loud* how mathematics is involved.
- Think about your 5 favorite games or activities and list* all the different ways that math is currently involved. Think of 1 new way to add learning about math to it. Pick 3 of them and use* the new way that you suggested with your friends/family and discuss* your experiences and results with a group.
- Learn about math involved in 10 popular sports (ex: tennis, golf, basketball, football, soccer, bowling, juggling, baseball, swimming, and track). Research world records (such as distances, speeds, etc.) and use these findings to further understand math involved in sports. Write a one page paper* on what you learned.
- Create a game* that uses green-level math and teach it to others.
- Pick 20+ of your favorite lullabies/relaxing songs and study all the different math components to their musical composition and discern if there are any patterns to what makes a song ‘relaxing’. Make a graph or chart* of your findings.
- Create a new fun way to learn indigo-level math and create a learning style, a game, a comic, or something fun* to help others learn. Get it published or integrated into public use in some way.
- Choosing 3+ violet-level mathematics that you would like to create a new fun way to teach to people, and, with that goal in mind, create an open-source manual* that calculates and describes the bodily processes involved in sleep cycles, circadian rhythms, and/or hibernation cycles.

Life Sciences
- Explore and compare sleep cycles of different animals and plants you know of; why do you think there’s such a difference? Discuss* this with an older person.
- Explore the periods of hibernation and other non-active stages in the life of 5 different species of animals you know of. Consider why you think certain animals need to hibernate. Create a picture* of your findings.
- Explore the different species of animals that digest food while being asleep, Define the use of sleep in this case. Make a project* showing this.
- Make a presentation* on the animals that lead the most relaxing lifestyles and their features.
- Do research on the periods of sleep of different bodily organs for different species. In a 5 to 10 page report* give explanations for similarities and differences between them.
- Choose 3-5 species and explore the functioning of all their systems when they sleep, and the difference between the active and relaxed phases? Create a poster* showing this information.
- Explore the concept of REST in all life sciences; find the deep meaning and significance of it in each case. Create an experiment* to prove your thesis.
|
|
Physical Sciences
- Study the movement of a sleepless person taking into account all forces that influence him/her. Draw a picture* representing what you see.
- Measure a potential resting energy of 5-10 objects and record the results in a list-based presentation* that you create.
- Write a 2 to 4 page report* comparing the atom and molecule compositions of different types of matter and which one you believe is the most still?
- Find an experiment that gives 5-7 examples of the slowest chemical reactions. What makes them happen so slowly? Explain this in a presentation* which includes performing the experiment – if possible.
- Explore, define, and measure chemical bonds of elements in different conditions, considering which conditions you associate with sleep. What happens to the bonds in these conditions? Make a chart and presentation* showing your results.
- Explore and suggest how to “put to sleep” radioactive elements. Write and open source publish an article* about this.
- Conduct an experiment*on the concept of SLEEP within an advanced branch of physical science or chemistry. Free share* the steps of and research from your experiment and results.
|
|
Earth Sciences
- What seasons would you associate with a sleeping condition? Why? With another person, give a description* of each season in terms of being asleep and being awake.
- Compare the processes of rock formations. Which process is the most “sleeping” (the least active)? Make a picture or model* representing this.
- Study the rock cycle and define its “sleeping” periods. Create a 3-dimensional representation* of this.
- Choose a place on Earth and trace back its history of development by making/drawing a series of images* which illustrate its “still” moments. Design a map* of this.
- Choose 3 planets in the Solar System. Create a poster chart to compare* them by their static characteristics and rate them according to 3 scales suggested by you.
- Write and open source publish an article* exploring the structure and the composition of the atmosphere, discussing whether there are any still periods of its existence.
- Write and publish a thesis level paper* on the concept of SLEEP from a violet level in the Earth sciences molecule.
